Visiting Fort Zeelandia by Landcruising Adventure

The first fort in the region was Kyk-over-all, farther upriver. The Dutch wanted to protect the plantations downriver better so they built this fort. Construction completed in 1744. It was the seat of the Dutch administration for the Essequibo colony.
