Made of ceramic and pigment by a Mayan artist in Jaina Island region of Mexico some time between 600 and 900 AD.
Mayan grave offerings often depicted warriors, adorned with armor and headdresses. This seated warrior is wearing quilted cotton armor and a skeletal, animal-like headdress with feathes. The headdress is removeable, and the lower jaw is articulated.
